GEOGRAPHY
The hospital is to be found on the shore of the Uru Harbour half way along the north-east coast of the island of Malaita. It has provided skilled medical services in a Christian environment for over 36 years.

HISTORY
Atoifi Adventist Mission Hospital in the Solomon Islands has 111 beds and serves a population of 80,000 on the island of Malaita.  Atoifi serves a regional medical as well as a “mission” role being funded by the Seventh Day Adventists. The hospital is small but well organised, with many volunteers from abroad visiting.

HOSPITAL FACILITIES
The nursing staff and medical staff are usually Solomon Islanders but over the years medical and nursing staff have come from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada and the United Kingdom.  Final year medical students rotate through Atoifi hosital from National Referral Hospital (NRH), in Honiara. The hospital has one resident doctor, 35 nurses,  two operating theatres and one anaesthetic machine, with anaesthetic monitoring (capnography and ecg) and performs around 600 surgical operations per year, a laboratory for simple medical tests and an x-ray unit.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation is provided to voluteers.  Electricity is available from 8am until 4pm, and 6pm until 9pm, with internet available during these times.  Clean rain water from roof run off is available.  Flysolomons have flights twice a week on Monday and Friday to Atoifi from Honiara.
