Dr Brian Lewer, an anaesthetist from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, has worked in anaesthesia for 34 years including several years in South Africa. He has held senior university lecturer posts and served on regional and national committees of the College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA). Dr Lewer was the only volunteer anaesthetist to visit with a surgical mission of six surgeons to Gizo hospital in late January 2017. During this week over 100 operations were performed. Dr Lewer is keen to return and be involved in ongoing anaesthetic education in the Solomon Islands .
