Dr Lacy, is an anaesthetist from Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick in Sydney with a long interest in volunteer work in the developing world including the South Pacific. Dr Lacy is a believer in mixing work with pleasure and can often be found snorkeling at the nearby reef during his lunch break while volunteering.
Dr Lacy visited Gizo hospital (Solomon Islands), in May 2015 with Dr David Knox (gynaecologist from Orange hospital) doing quite a number of major operations in a short time frame for quite a backlog of accumulated gynae procedures and returned again with Dr Knox & Dr Pat Chan in June 2016 and again in July 2017 with Dr Alan Tong. Most recently Dr Lacy conducted a gynae trip to Northern Provincial Hospital, Luganville (Vanuatu) in July 2018 also with Dr Alan Tong.
Being the longest serving member of DAISI, Dr Lacy was awarded “Greatest Anaesthetic Contribution” at the Annual DAISI Charity Ball in Dec 2018 in recognition of the volunteer work he has done, as well as the recruitment of many DAISI volunteers from Randwick Women’s Hospital.
Dr Lacy is next planning a volunteer trip to Gizo hospital in March 2023 with a visiting gynae team. DAISI is incredibly grateful to Dr Leo Lacy for his selfless devotion to anaesthetic training in the South-Pacific.
