Dr Ann Collins is a well regarded oral maxillofacial surgeon from Westmead Public and Private hospitals with a keen interest in humanitarian work with over 30 years of volunteering her surgical skills in the developing world, including the Pacific Islands. Ann’s skills are particularly needed in the Solomon Islands, where beetle nut chewing and high alcohol and tobacco intake are responsible for the high incidence of oral cavity tumours. Dr Collins visited Gizo hospital and Honiara Narional Referral Hospital in July/August 2016 performing and assisting with both oral maxillo-facial and general surgery. Dr Collins is keen to support the future development of training in oral maxillo-facial surgery at the National Referral Hospital in the capital Honiara.
