Dr. Desmond Soares is an orthopaedic surgeon from Springwood, Queensland. Dr Soares has had a long interest in developing world surgery first working in Nepal in 1990 with the Leprosy Mission. Dr Soares has been involved with the training of orthopaedic surgeons in the Solomon Islands and Pacific Islands since 2007. Since 2013 Dr Soares has been more actively involved with the training of orthopaedic registrars from the Pacific Islands (PNG, Fiji, Kiribati, Samoa, Vaunautu & Solomon Islands) as part of the Pacific Islands Orthopaedic Association, with three visits each year to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Dr. Soares will be in the Solomon Islands from May 28 until June 5, 2016 where he will be teaching at the Spine training module in Honiara.
