This one week trip to Tungaru Central Hospital (TCH), Tarawa Island, Kiribati was requested and organised by the late Dr Burentau Teriuborikin (Director of Hospital Services), who unfortunately passed away unexpectedly before the team arrived.
The team consisted of Colorectal Surgeon Dr Daniel Kozman, and anaesthetist Dr Harry Lam from St George Hospital. Both have done previous DAISI overseas volunteering. Both departed Sydney Sunday 15th July, arriving Tarawa Mon 16th July (with a brief stop over in Nadi), and checked into Eniita Airport Lodge
Screen of patients occurred from 8am-11am on Tue 17th July at Tungaru Central Hospital (TCH), Tarawa Island, Kiribati, with the first operations performed later that day from 12-5pm. Wed & Thur & Fri were also spent operating with recreation on Fri 20th Jul. The DAISI team departed Tarawa Mon 23rd July at 12:00 pm, Arriving Nadi 3:00 PM, deparingt Nadi 6:40 PM, then arriving Sydney 9:35 PM.
